Design Futures Faculty Convening

Friday, January 17, 2020
9am-4:30pm
Paul Robeson Community Wellness Center
6569 S. Vermont Ave LA CA 90044

The Design Futures Faculty Convening is a one-day workshop for designers, artists, educators, and organizers focused on equitably envisioning, designing, and transforming the built environment.  We will spend the day in community with each other as practitioners to reflect on the field, share tactics, and create collective actions to strengthen our neighborhoods, professional practices, and institutions, into more connected and equitable places.

This year, we will focus on trauma-informed design.  Framing our neighborhoods and design institutions, as places of experienced trauma, we will explore how can we use creative strategies to unearth unconscious patterns of harm and intentionally create new frameworks rooted in shared power and collective healing.

Who should attend?
We use the term “faculty” loosely, as anyone with experience and knowledge in the field either in practice and/or academia. You do not need to be affiliated with a university to attend.

See below for costs and registration. For folx who are unaffiliated with organizations or with a budget of less than $60k, please contact designfuturesforum@gmail.com directly for alternative pricing.

We wish that we could keep this event cost-free for participants, but because we are self-funding this gathering, we hope this can be a collective effort to resource.

Please contact designfuturesforum@gmail.com directly with any concerns related to costs.

Deadline

Registration closes Friday, January 10th, 2020.

Please note only 40 tickets will be available to keep the convening on a small and intimate scale.

Registration and Costs

This convening is not funded by outside resources, so for the first time, we will need to charge a registration fee to cover the actual costs of the event. To ensure that registration is equitable, we have two tiers, based on the budget size of your organization, institution, or other affiliation (or non-affiliation).
